Good question...First of all, welcome to the USA! I'm glad you're here.
One thing you can learn from Americans is that we are not much different from people anywhere in the world. All of us mostly want the same things everyone wants: prosperity, happiness, and a better life for our children.
Americans are generally more ambitious than other people, but that's not a bad thing; the vast majority of us are not the liars and warmongers people overseas think we are. Just about all of us are as honest and friendly as people are all over the world.
All of the temptations such as booze, drugs, prostitutes, etc. are available in the US just as they are almost everywhere else. Stay away from them; they just lead to trouble.
Make the most of your education. Work hard at getting the best out of your time in class. Most universities in the US require you to take courses other than the ones necessary for your degree. Some of them are good, but some are not so good; most teachers at universities in the US have a left-wing political agenda; try not to come totally under their worldview. In other words, think for yourself.
Thanks for asking a good question, and I hope you enjoy your time in the US!

First, welcome to America. I hope you have a good time here. I think the one thing you will notice above all is that most people are very self-indulgent. There's nothing wrong with this once in awhile, but frankly, we do it too much. Take this as a negative example and teach yourself discipline and I think you will go far.
You may also want to keep in mind that the culture of universities are not completely mainstream. The average American is alot more conservative than what you will see on campus.

Hopefully you will learn that Americans are from varied backgrounds, ethnical origins, religions, financial situations, and sexual orientations; all of which blend into what it takes to make an American. But unfortunately you will meet bigots, critics, zealots, intolerance idiots who do not represent the pride of being an American.

Learn how to relax and have fun--few do it better. You probably bring good social and teamwork skills with you, but you can learn the value of individual, independent action here. Each approach has its place.
Refrain from binge drinking and other impulsive or compulsive behavior. Maintain your academic rigor in the face of American laziness and lack of depth.
