Yes! excellent question, it's called the fair tax, it's based solely on a 23% sales tax. It has been researched by many leading economists and is a sound policy. It will lower everyone's tax burden, stimulate our economy, and lead to increased total revenue for the government.
Keep in mind at one time federal income taxes were considered unconstitutional, and before about the 1920's there were NO income taxes at all, and our country did just fine, many would say better than today, so it can be done!!! We just need some strong willed politicians who have to courage to push it through.

Taxes are a very broad subject. Are we talking about taxes "within the united states", "taxes without the united states", taxes in the territories of the "united states"? Where is the "term" "united states" defined? Title 26 U.S.C. section 7701 line # 9. Be sure to include the "term" "State" in line #10 for the word state in line #9. This is only one of three definitions of the Term "united states".
I think the question here is "What taxes do I really owe?" If you are assuming you owe income taxes, check the following information: Title 31 U.S.C. section 1321 line #2 and 62. line # 62 is the way it is spelled on the federal 1040 with proper captalization.
Original income tax manuals for 1991, 92 and 93 letter form the commissioner in the front of the book, "Voluntary Compliance.
Is the Federal 1040 tax form complying with the paperwork reduction act of 1995? Read title 44 U.S.C. section 3507 (f) and (g). Now ask your self, " Has this form been revised in the last 3 years? Also 26 cfr 602.101 dealing with OMB# which leads to 5 cfr 1320.
This should give one a good start on tax education and asking questions on where the tax is comming from and does it apply to me.
There are other taxes such as state sales tax, state excise tax and federal excise tax. These are the hidden taxes that are not seen but are paid for when you buy the product. Such items are food, clothing, gas, diesel, cars, and all sorts of merchandise.
It looks like I added several more questions to this in answering the question. There are so many questions on the subject of taxes.

I'm assuming you mean "free" benefits of taxes. Policemen and hospitals are perfectly possible without taxes (private security agencies and private hospitals exist, and both with a higher standard of quality than the public ones.)
Payment for war is trickier: mercenaries also exist in most countries in the world, including the U.S., but probably not enough to launch a full-scale war.
But to what I think was really your question: no, these things cannot exist without money coming from somewhere. Either citizens volunteer money, philanthropists donate enough money, or you pay for specific services: a monthly fee if you want your house patrolled, a fee if you need a criminal arrested, a fee for medical expenses, etc.

Good in theory but it would never work, especially here in the UK where we have a free NHS. There simply wouldn't be enough money to pay for the emergency services and the armed forces.
And then there is the council tax we pay for services such as refuse collection, road tax for safer and better roads etc.
If we stopped all taxes, we would be no better off than a Third World country.

Our EMS and Fire departments in this area are all run completely on donations, with some minute funding from the local government.
Its not a pretty picture.
Unless there were laws to MAKE companies donate monies or materials, and laws to MAKE people donate time and skills it simply wouldnt work.

Yes. Make all the policeman, doctors, nurses, and soldiers work for free. You ready to sign up for a tour in Iraq, help the sick, or wear a badge now?
