The drive is a Benq Atapi DVD+RW. When I open My Computer, I can't even see the DVD drive itself. I'm not sure what I need to do now. Do I need to find the software driver online to download? If so, where could I find that? I've tried to find it but to no avail. I appreciate it.

Not SURE If this will resolve your problem but i'm on vista with an LG dvd drive.. and EVERY time I load my computer I have to go into the Device Manager and select "scan for hardware changes" - the device appears in my computer every time! Wish I could explain it but I've got all the latest vista drivers and everything. Hope this helps.

I do not think that you need any kind of Drivers for this. Windows has its own native Drivers for CD/ DVD ROM Reader / Writer Drives.

I think your problem stems from the fact that the Drive has not been given its own ID. This is to say that you probably need to make the Drive a Master or a Slave instead of " Cable Select ". This is done by the jumpers at the back of the Drive.
You may have to do this in a complementary fashion with your Hard Disk Drive. See what the details, on the label sticking on the Hard Disk Drive , says about connecting another Slave Drive or a Master Drive.

If this Master or Slave selection is already done correctly, then you need to make sure that the IDE ribbon cable( it maybe a SATA/PATA Cable as well ) that you are using to connect this is in good condition and not twisted crazily or even worn out. Also make sure that the Drive setting is correct in your BIOS Setting.

Good Luck !
