Well, it has been years since I last read the 'simplified' version of the book but i think it covers most of the plot.

1. Yes. After losing their baby (was it Coyotito?) to a stray bullet, Kino finally realised how much misfortune the Pearl had brought them. In the end, he threw the Pearl back into the sea so that no one else will suffer the same fate.

2. He was jealous of Kino's windfall so the Doctor tried to poison the baby by giving him a 'cure' to the scorpion bite.

3. Juan gave them a hiding place when Kino's hut was destroyed by fire ; he gave them some supplies for the journey to the city by boat ; he gave some advice to Kino (to destroy the Pearl as soon as possible ; he warned Kino that changing the way they lived could bring misfortune)
