You need a Windows XP CD. (Or Vista if that's what your computer runs)

Put it in your computer, then reboot it. When it is starting up, load from the CD. (This varies by Manufacturer, do a Google search for 'Boot from CD' followed by your manufacturer, such as Dell, Gateway, Compaq, etc.)

It will ask you what you want to do. Select Install XP. It will get to the point where you have to clear the HD, select the HD that is largest. In my sources I will post a more in-detail description than what I have done.

Good luck, and if you need more help feel free to send me an eMail.

Press the required button on your systems start up (Probably F2), but some are different
Go to your CMOS settings for boot sequence
Put your CD-Rom as your first boot
Load in a XP install disk, restart
The XP disk will load
It will bring you to the partition screen
Delete the partition you have XP currently installed on
It will ask if you're sure a couple of times
Go to Quick Install...its faster
It will install the XP and your computer will be like it was fresh out of the box
You're going to need a product code for your XP disk
It is located on the cd, the cd documentation, or a holographic sticker on your computer itself

If you want to reformat your computer and start new, of course you need to have the windows XP disk. Just pop-in the disk and it will ask you if you want to repair or reformat, choose reformat and it will erase everything, files, previous OS, all. It will format your drive and install windows fresh.

Whole process will take around 45-90 mins.

A restore does not do that it only replaces older files.
you will need a xp disk with legal keys and the best way to do ? is called a fresh install period, dont take any damaged data files errors etc with you...
