As far as we know for sure, dragons are mythological creatures. However, the myth of dragons has existed in many cultures around the world, even those which have never come in contact with each other. There are several theories on why this is. Some people suggest that since the myth is so widespread, dragons must have really existed at some point. In some places, dinosaur bones are mistaken as dragon bones (this has happened in China, and "dragon" bones are still used as medicine).

The best theory I have seen was popularized by David Jones in the book "An Instinct For Dragons." This theory suggests that early humans were instictively afraid of certain types of animals which would hunt them. These animals included snakes, big cats, and large birds. The most defining feature for each of these animals - long scaly body for snakes, claws and big teeth for cats, and wings for birds - combined in our ancestors' brains to form the dragon.

Of course, this theory is not proven at all, it is just a theory. I think it is a good one though, unless somebody finds proof that dragons did really exist. In any case, they do not exist right now, unless you count Komodo Dragons, which are large lizards that do not fly.

I've seen this strange dragon image on the back door of a Chinese resturaunt I used to work for. It was darker than the blue of the door, and the owners were burning incense for it. It eventually disapeared without a trace though, but not before pictures were taken. It was on the inside, and it would've been impossible for someone to spray paint that. Wish I had one of the pictures, I'd show it in an instant!
