I have a masters in architecture but have not yet got my riba qualifications. I was wanting to draw up house extensions and simple projects for people in the holidays without getting a proper job. If it falls down will they sue me?

You are able to provide services of the type you indicate without professional indemnity insurance. Loft Conversion specialist do plans all the time without such insurance.
If the property is defective (or falls down) as a result of a defect in the plans which the builder did not spot, you may be in the firing line as regards any writs being fired off.
That's why we have professional indemnity insurance. So you won't lose your house and be made bankrupt if you make a mistake.
