The brakes on our 2001 Chevy Blazer are feeling spongy, got only slightly better with a flush of all the brake fluid. Also, the pedal slowly goes to the floor at a stop light...I think this is an indication of a master cylinder starting to go. Any way to find out for sure before replacing it? Any other ideas on what could be causing the problems?

If you don't see any loss in brake fluid but notice that the brake pedal is slowly hitting the floor then you do have a bad master cylinder. Check all fittings before just to make sure they are all dry (no leaking)

It's not uncommon for these to go out on such a new vehicle.
This has happened to me before. I just write it off as a manufacturer defect.

If there's no brake fluid leaks in the wheel cylinders and calipers and the rear brakes are adjusted properly, then "pedal goes slowly to the floor" means you need a new master cylinder. Of course this assumes your brakes have been bled of any air in the system and that the brake fluid is fresh and uncontaminated.

Either bad master cylinder, or leaking brake cylinders.

Any leaks inside the wheels? (rear drum)
