I can't believe no one has mentioned the Montreal Protocol of 1987!!! Ozone depletion did not begin until Thomas Midgely, a mechanical engineer turned chemist invented Chloroflurocarbons - or more commonly known as CFC - to stop (if nothing else) fridges from blowing up. At the time, the CFCs were deemed stable, but then, surface reactions were unknown. There are plenty of articles on the web depicting the destruction CFC's cause in the stratosphere in the south polar spring - and much much more rarely, in the north polar spring.
However, it took time for the CFC's to destroy enough Ozone in the Stratosphere above Antarctica - or around 50 years to create the 'hole in the ozone layer' (a whole other story...). Note: The CFCs aren't destroying Ozone elsewhere because its to warm. When the depletion of ozone above Antarctica was reported by British Scientists in the 1980s, the cause was identified and almost immediately (compared to the Kyoto Protocol...) it was recognised that a manmade chemical which did not occur naturally in nature was accelerating the breakdown of ozone in the stratosphere. The Kyoto Protocol was enacted in 1987 to ban the use of CFCs globally.
The Montreal Protocol effectively meant an almost immediate ban of CFCs in the developed world (ironically, the CFCs in aerosol cans were replaced with hydrocarbons, thus every time you spray something out of a can, you do your bit to contribute to global warming...). The rest of the world is supposed to have phased out CFCs by this year, but it is suspected that there are many rotting fridges and air conditioners around the world, still leaking CFCs into the atmsphere.
That said, there is some evidence that although the hole in the ozone layer has not exactly decreased much in the intervening 20 years, it is defintely not getting worse. There have been some reports of it being worse in some years, but ironically, that occurs because it is COLDER over Antarctica the previous winter - not warmer. It took 50 years to reduce the worlds ozone levels in the stratosphere, it will take at least 50-70 years to restore to them to near postulated original levels - not assisted by the leaking sources of CFCs in developing parts of the world.
Ozone is created naturally by the sun's action on oxygen molecules over tropical regions, so it will regenerate - as long as its not being destroyed by our chemicals.
Now if you want to talk about ozone in the troposphere, the part of the atmosphere, then there is no shortage at all as every smoggy city will testify! Its spewed out of cars...

Oxygen is converted to ozone by UV radiation, it takes a while but in thery the natural process could be replicated on an industrial scale. The hole is closing anyway from what ive read but still a bit of help couldnt hurt.

well you would want to try and minimize the use of CO2, freon, and other energy. if we all did the the emissions of polution would be at a minimum and the Ozone can ane will heal. also to stop cutting trees down. when you cut them down they breath CO2 and release O2 back into the atmosphere. that includs Christmas trees. its ok to go fake.. its safer as well. Replanting or plant more trees would be an excellent idea

We cans top ozone depletion by stopping and hindering then use of COCs or COC-derived products, such as air-conditioning freon chemicals, hairsprayers, and the use of carbon-based chemicals.

well I can tell you what not to do----don't listen to Gore, the contradiction between what he preaches and his actions say it all, mayhaps he will give up the jets and mansions and eating beef to help his cause
