I'm looking into adding to my CD collection but don't know much about most bands. As such, does anyone have any reccomendations?

I'm not a fan Dance, R'n'B and Hip-Hop because they irritate the life out of me as does Pop, Reggie, and most novelty items.

Although I do like some songs from these genres, for the most part I doubt I'd include them in my CD collection because the songs I like are far too small in number to warrent the effort.

I'm looking into more Rock/Metal bands but am open to other ideas.

Bands I do like include Within Temptation, Evanesance, Nickleback, Linkin Park (but minus the annoying Jay-Z remixes that, in my opinion, ruined some decent songs), Muse, Metallica, Rammstein. I'm looking for more of the same.

I'm interested in getting some Alice Cooper and Pink Floyd albums but it's all a matter of where to begin.

Thank you all so far for your suggestions. I'm also looking into some Punk Rock ideas and ideas that are a little less mainstream. A brief description about such bands are always welcome :-)

ok, you've gotto put some led zepplin in there and rem's automatic for the people, crowded house and counting crow's first album - august and everything after is a classic, pink floyd - the dark side of the moon is an absolute classic, metallica - black cover one, pearl jam - ten and versus - gotto have those, suzanne vega's best of is great, soundgarden - their first album (one with black hole sun), radiohead (the bends and ok computer), these are just a few of my classics in my collection. Good luck! If you're not sure then get some best of's, like sheryl crow, rem, rolling stones (hot rocks), nickelback's first album is good too. Oh and I forgot you gotto have some NIrvana in there, try Bleach, Nevermind and Unplugged, they are legends!

Alice Cooper's From the Inside is my favourite. Of course, there is Welcome to My Nightmare ...

Re Pink Floyd, some people consider Dark Side of the Moon to be the greatest album of all time. Not saying I do, but that's definitely a good one to start with :)
