ive read this and see that your sayin it happened now AND 2 and a half years ago.... Question to you is.... how can they remember that this happened?? unless thier system holds on a file all the chgs you have had which i doubt as i work for a bank and we can only see back upto one year from the month we are in. Did they refund the chg 2 years ago? has your account maintanence been in check since then? have you had chgs for anythin else, ie overdrawn chgs, card misuse? if not then i wouldnt see why they cant refund it. they normally refund a few then advise the customer that this would be thier final goodwill. Also if they said they would refund it then they should can u remember who you spoke to? make it an official complain as an oversite on your part and that u were told it would be refunded. you can only try again. if they say no, speak to the manager. it is at thier discretion if they refund u

You could try ringing again, telling them you aware there are various you can go down to claim your charges back, but it would save everyone time and effort if they reversed them for you, seeing as the last time this was done was 2 1/2 years ago. They may then do it.

To be honest with you, for £78 in charges its not worth going down the claims route, although if you have any more than the 2 charges in the last 6 years, it would make it worthwhile.

My site below has detailed step by step guides to the process of claiming your bank charges back, along with template letters and spreadsheets. It also has the latest bank charge news and developments, and forums for one to one help and support.

Two and a half years ago? Well I'm sorry to say that there is no bank out there that will refund a charge that happened that long ago. Generally you have approximately 90 days to dispute a charge that was made against your account. Sorry I wasn't able to help.

You need to keep a better track of the expenses that you pay out of your bank account. I've owned bank accounts for over 18 years; it took only one overdraft charge to get me motivated, and I've never had a problem since.

-Check your balance more frequently, at least once a week.
-Get into the habit of anticipating (over a month's time) your expenses vs. what you might deposit.
-Use a spreadsheet program to track your expenses. You might have such a program installed on your computer right now.

Rules are rules and you are expected to abide by them.It is your fault for letting your balance get so depleted. You should plan for there always being enough in your account to meet your commitments and then also allow a safety margin of say a couple of hundred pounds to allow for emergencies.I try to never let my current account balance ever drop below £600 so I know that all my commitments will be met.

1: Letter on line? are you sure it really was from your bank? and not a phish attempt
2: 39 seems a bit steep. People have successfully challenged these sorts of charges.

'fraid so - you have to pay. Otherwise mugs like me - who don't go overdrawn - end up paying in the form of rubbish interest rates. Why should I pay for your incompetence?
