since religion can be defined by a belief structure wouldnt that make psychology a religion? Since most people believe that the mind is the most powerful thing on earth how could psychology be excluded as a religion?

The word "religion" (small-r) has been applied to many fields to stress how a person practices their craft - with total belief and earnestness.

Religion (cap-R), on the other hand, proposes belief in a Deity, that is, a God or godlike person/messenger whose teachings are followed earnestly.

Thus, Psychology is a (small-r) religion.

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind, behavior and how the two work together. Religion is a belief not a science.

Psychology is not a religion because it is a science.
That's what the -ology means, it's the study of human behavior and the human brain.

Religion is based on faith. Science is based of proof. Two completely different things. Nice try.

Psychology does not espouse a belief structure. Instead, it relies almost exclusively on theories and does not hold a stand regarding man's existence or purpose in life.
