This may sound crazy but this was a genuine story in yesterdays London Eevning Standard and I think it even made the BBC.

Scientists are conducting research to prove that feeding Chickens and other livestock on the remains of other animals like they used to do before BSE is in fact safe.

"Scientists have already begun a £1.15 million research project aimed at proving to the public that using the remains of pigs and chickens as fodder is safe.

A ban on the practice, brought in across Europe in 2000, followed fears that it was behind the spread of BSE.

Now scientists are carrying out tests to determine whether pig meat could be fed to chickens, and chicken meat to pigs, without posing any human health risks."

Do you think it is a good idea? Will you trust them when they produce the evedence to say it is safe?

It is true and it very worrying indeed - If you were around when the whole BSE scandal unfolded you will understand what this means. The existence of BSE was denied by the Government and then was confirmed to be true. Unfortunately, some went to to develop CJD which led to the long, painful and needless deaths of innocent people. As before, it is all about taking shortcuts to save money with little regard given to public safety or animal welfare for that matter. I think there will be a public revolt against it.

Molly h - pigs are more definitely not vegetarians - they will eat almost anything hence, the reason they are being used in the study. Cows on the other hand are herbivores and eating other animals was what caused BSE.

It's just sick.
As a commited carnivore if they change the law to allow this to happen then I will stop using supermarkets for any meat and look for traceable free range farms on all produce or go veggy!!!

Umm, No. These types of studies don't go long enough to factor out any health risk, no study does.

I don't see what the problem is. Farmers have been feeding human and animal sh*t to plants for millenia and you haven't been complaining.
