it works well in Canada , but there is problems with every health care system least we don't worry about losing our house and home when we get really sick, and our credit cards don't get run up , so what the problems with this system , well in most cases you have to wait for a while to be treated if someone comes in with a bigger problem then you have

My heavens, I never have been flashed, but I did unintentionally flash a few folks once. I was in the hospital some time back and decided to take a stoll to the vending area. Well, I wasn't thinking about what I was wearing and, let's just say that those hospital gowns don't leave a lot to the imagination on the backside. The nurse came up from behind me and put a blanket over my shoulders . . . I was wondering why it was a little drafty back there!

The government cannot provide universal healthcare, just universal health coverage. That in no way equates to universal access to healthcare.

No. The sad thing is that when the rest of the world is trying to go to a healthcare like our we are trying to go to a system that has fail everywhere it has been tryed. Those who complain about our system never come up with a better system. Just more gov't control. And most don't like to hear this but healthcare is not a right.

a_wood80 makes a good point. Universal health coverage, which is what the politicians talk about will result in higher health care costs and higher taxes. The government already controls health care in that It allows the medical business to engage in price fixing on a grand scale (as it does also the insurance and oil interests).

Universal health care is what we need. I've been in several of the Commonwealth countries and their system is far superior.

A comment was made about waiting for treatmentt for cancer. If true, it would still be better than no diagnosis or treatment. With universal coverage, you could still sell all your property and pay for treatmen on your own, just as you do now. Private health insurance has many limitations and disclaimers. Same as property insurance, when the insurance company is faced with a real situation that would justify their high cost, they withdraw coverage and the gov't allows them to screw their customers to keep earnings high.

You have that one right. I don't think people realize that universal health care is controlled by the government. That means you see the doctor they tell you to see and only when they say you can even if that is months done the road. Lord, help you is you need surgery for a problem that will be more months done the road. The doctor's visit is cheap but your taxes are at the 50% or higher mark. I don't think most people in favor of universal coverage have thought of any of these things.

The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not guarantee access to health care as a right of citizenship. 28 industrialized nations have single payer universal health care systems.

Go read about the Netherlands and get back to me, Sparky.

OK if it is a disaster and Socialized medicine is Nirvana then explain to me why people form Canada come to the U.S. for treatment. When the govt. runs anything they are not required to do a good job to keep their job. here's some examples the DMV,the post office, the IRS and the best example is our own Congress. All of these people have to constantly justify their jobs. Filled with so much red tape and people who just come to work just going thru the motions and not really trying to streamline the process.

Well I guess if you are the lucky few who have healthcare it would. But 25-30% of Americans no longer have healthcare benefits. A staggering number considering the wealth of this nation. It's a disgrace that the richest country has one of the worst healthcare systems.

I don't think they do understand it. I know too much government control is a bad idea. I don't understand those are are for this. These are people who are supposed to believe in freedom yet they are willing to trust their health to the government. I wonder if they understand that just like the VA you can't sue the government for bad health care. If we just capped the payouts today on law suits that would go further to reduce our medical costs right there.
