No. Ichiro is a great hitter. He's extremely fast and will get hits alot of players won't. Joe D however did not have to face specialty relief pitchers that Ichiro does. Most games Joe D only had to face the starter and maybe one reliever. It is not uncommon for Ichiro to face 3 different in a game and in some cases a different pitcher every time he comes to the plate. This makes the task infinately more difficult. Because of this I don't think not only can Ichiro not do it, I don't think it can be done by anyone.

He is the type hitter that could do it. He has speed and can beat out those infield hits which you have to do at times in a long streak. However, the 56 game hit streak is going to difficult to break for anyone. The game is not played today as it was when DiMaggio played. Chances were DiMaggio would face one pitcher every game but today Ichiro could face three or four a game in specialty situations. Not only was 56 great but it would be more difficult today because of changes in the game.

Facing relievers makes this one of the most untouchable records in baseball. If he were able to face the same pitcher 4 or 5 times a game the way dimaggio did, he could do it.

But Ichiro's already broken two records that've been around since the 20's, so if anyone can, it's him. If he does do it, it should be considered a much better record than dimaggios.

this is going to probable take place sometime, even though it ought to be a protracted time. this is between the harder information available - this is been over 30 years because of the fact everyone has even made it to 40 video games. As to who ought to do it - there are a sort interior the majors who ought to attend to it - Ichiro, Pujols, Mauer, and probable 0.5 a dozen others have the potential. Hitting streaks that long are many times a statistical fluke - even once you're a .4 hundred hitter, there is largely some a million in 2500 threat which you will flow fifty six promptly video games with a minimum of one hit.

No, I doubt it. Joe D's streak has lasted 65 years without anyone coming closer than 44 games. It's an extreme outlier, a freak record.

That said, I've stated before that if any active player can do it, it'll be Ichiro.

i think ichiro is one of the game's best hitters. his ability to get on base when, how, and where ever he wants to is awesome. i would love to see him do it but i don't know. if it was barry definitely not. pitchers wouldnt pitch to him intentionally. however ichiro is liked by many so they might give him the chance

Not a chance. I dont think that streak will ever be broken with the modern day pitchers we have today.

I don't think so. Some idiot will order up 4-5 walks to ensure it will not happen. When it does, watch for the "integrity of the game" argument to really heat up.
