Ok.. I'm 40 weeks and 4 days. I have lost my mucus plug, had a bloody show, I'm 100% effaced, 2 cm, and I've been having cramps. I also have been having contractions close together (between 5-10 mins) but it will last about an hour and then stop for 5 hours and then start again, and then stop.... however, the contractions are getting stronger. This has been going on for DAYS!!!! I'm getting so frustrated b/c I feel like my body is just teasing me!! I've been walking and tried all the "get labor going" stuff. How long will this early labor phase last???!!!???

Wow, this sounds like my last pregnancy! I was getting so frustrated, feeling like I was in labor for several days. My contractions would hurt and be from 5-10 minutes apart, but by evening they would fizzle out.

Like you, I was basically in the very first stage of labor for several days. It is frustrating, I know, but you don't need to go in until the contractions are regular and so painful that it's hard to talk while you're having one.

On the third morning, I finally woke up with very painful contractions and then my water started trickling out so I knew it was time.

All I can say, hon, is you are SO CLOSE so don't give out yet. You'll need your strength for active labor so rest now if you can. If it's hard to sleep, at least lie down and close your eyes.

You'll probably be holding that new baby in a day or two!

If the Doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't be either. The only complications I've seen with this scenario are that the baby is a bit too big to be delivered naturally and they have to do a C Section, or the baby goes to the bathroom while still inside of you which CAN be very dangerous. It can poison you and the baby, which is why they induce labor...to prevent it. As I said, if you've been to the Doctor and they've set the date for Saturday, given all the information and whatnot, then you're perfectly fine. The only thing they'll do if the fluid drops dangerously, especially because you're already past 40 weeks, is take the baby C Section. So either way, you'll be having a baby very soon! Now, don't freak out about the baby going to the bathroom. If they were ultimately worried about it, you'd be a mommy now =) So calm yourself down, relax, and prepare. Good luck and congrats!!!

Ask the doctor for another ultrasound provided your insurer will cover it. Make sure all is fine with the baby. If everything is fine you can still go another week before it would be nessecary for induction. Although I dont recommend induction it is quite painful more so than normal labor and could go longer. My first son was induced and I went 27 hours with him. My second was natural 100 percent and I only went 11 hours with him.

Why aren't yoy in the hospital getting induced. They should give you pitocin to increase the contractions. Take your self to hospital. Once you lose your plug and water, it can be dangerous for the baby. That's what happened to me!! My baby's cord started to flatten. Go straight to ER!!! Get an ultrasound!!

I have been feeling the same and i'm only 38 +4 weeks, you must be so frustrated.
I read somewhere just put on your most expensive underwear and its almost guaranteed that your waters will break.
I wish you and you baby all the best hang in there its all worth it.

Remember that 40 wks 4 days is your ESTIMATED gestation. You have to give or take 2 weeks.

BUT, your body is reallllly practicing! Which means your birth is going to be awesome, probibly easy.

On your next appt, tell you doc you want to talk about induction.

I certainly hope for your baby's sake that when he or she finally arrives that you don't turn to online forums instead of a medical professional. Rather than asking these questions online you should be calling your doctor. Isn't that what you are paying him/her for? No offense, but it's rather idiotic to turn to strangers in lieu of contacting your physician. I will keep your baby in my prayers because it seems like it will need it.

It should end very soon, the dr doesnt really let you go to far after your delivery date anyways.
