Unfortunately i'll only have about 2 days to visit, so im looking for suggestions on the best places to focus my time on since its such a short visit. Sunset with a beach/rocky setting is what im really looking for, and any type out mountain vistas. Im probably going to do one of the orca tours, so wildlife is also an interest. From looking at all the travel guides, im disapointed I had to cut the trip short as I am a Bluejackets season ticket holder and we have the draft this year :) So it should turn out to be a fun week!!

The logistics of Vancouver Island for such things. Most of the population is on the sheltered East Coast of the Island. Victoria is South East on the Island. So it offers sunrise opportunities.

For the best sunsets you need to go to the West Coast of the Island. You don't have time to make it to Tofino, but keep it in mind for next time. I suggest a drive out toward Sooke.

Also if you are into photography. My suggestion would be Butchart Gardens. Click on their link and check out the map, and seasonal pictures to see if it is appealing to you.

Take one of the zodiak boats in Victoria whale watching. You will get the chance to take some amazing shots of lighthouses, wildlife and trees with the Olympic Mountain range in the background. Here is a tip - call the boat company first and tell them you were there the week before and did not see any whales. Ask them if they have spotted them already that day, and you will be sure to see them. They know pretty much from early in the day if their spotters (locals who they pay) have seen them or not, and if they haven't, you will just pay to ride in a boat. If they have, you have a 95% chance of being around the orcas for a couple of hours. A site for these companies:

A good list of beaches in the area are here:

Frankly, the boat ride over on the ferry will give you some good shots too of the San Juan Islands. Very scenic area, all around. Head north to Nanaimo, if you have time. A two day trip may not allow it, but it is a 2 hour drive north and gives you a small, fishing villiage feel. GREAT place to visit.

Tofino-Ucluelet clayoquot sound area is great for beach mountain, rainforest, wildlife photography. You can go sea kayaking as well as whale watching tours.

The ferry had some great things to see but you can't go out side so the glass might affect you pictures and it could be foggy.

Victoria is really nice.
