I have recently been looking into the Nissan Altima Hybrid and the Toyota Camry Hybrid, but was recently informed by a coworker that if the hybrid is in an accident and the electrical system is hit, a fire will most likely start. Also if a fire does start in the electrial system and somebody tries to put out the fire by cutting the electric to the car a fire will also start there? I figure that if it would be that common for a fire to start, how could they be safe? So my question is, will a fire easily start in the car if you're in an accident?

Hybrids are just as safe as any other car on the road. After automotive blunders like the pinto, car makers got to great lengths to make sure that their cars aren't rolling bombs. Yes hybrids have extra battery packs, but that doesn't mean that the car will instantly explode on impact.

I dont think Fire from the batterys or electronics would be your problem because the Altima / Toyots systems are the same and well located behind the back seat. The severity of the impact would be you most likely death. Remember cars with two propulsion systems are heavier and handle less well say than a regular car with a efficent gasoline engine. And WHAT happens when your 5 year old car nees a set if toxic batterys replaced?

overpriced deathtraps....

Price the battery replacement you will stay away from them if you do this before you buy.

Thanks to these little death boxes, American automakers are done......

No more American steel with real V8 power.

Now we only get import plastic crap.
