I'd go with A for your first question--sports didn't play as major a role in women's lives at that time period as it does now.

For your second question, I'd say C. Education was, at this time, being regarded as a way of better equipping women for their roles as wives and mothers. Many colleges, such as Mt. Holyoke in Massachusetts and St. Mary's in North Carolina began, actually, as girls' academies.

1 is pretty clearly A. 2 is more complicated but I'm betting the answer is supposed to be "D" mostly because of the achievement under law of married women's property rights.
