Yes, unfortunately, it is pretty easy to have a gun in the U.S. Yes, many people get killed with guns. My opinion is that there needs to be some effective control of gun ownership.

Yes many people have guns in the US. It is our constitutional right to have guns. Yes people do get killed with guns...but they can also be killed with other things. See AP story below it came out yesterday..
Associated Press
June 1, 2007
MANILA, Philippines — A man armed with a long knife killed 10 people, including five children, and wounded 14 more, during a rampage early Saturday in a central Philippine province, police said.
The man first attacked and wounded six members of his own family with whom he lived in a remote village outside Calbayog city in central Samar province around 2 a.m. local time, police desk officer Jessie Gianan said by telephone.
The man then barged into two neighboring homes where he stabbed and hacked at the sleeping occupants, then he returned to a wake where he had been drinking earlier and attacked everyone in his path, Gianan said.

Eight of his victims died on the spot and two died later at a hospital, Gianan said. Another 14 were wounded.
The man then surrendered to another villager who turned him over to the authorities. It was not immediately clear what prompted the rampage.
End of AP report
Now according to the info I found a person wanting a gun has to wait a month or more to obtain the weapon after submitting all kinds of documentation to show that he/she may purchase a gun that must be kept in the home..(see the attached source for more info on gun control in the Philippines). All of these restrictions did not stop a criminal from killing these people. The restrictions only made it easier for him to do so, because the citizens are severely restricted as to the ability to own a firearm.
So to me it is a good thing that we can own and carry firearms for protection.
Tokoloshimani: The US Supreme Court has ruled that people do NOT have the right to EXPECT protection from the police EVEN if the police KNOW that a crime is taking place or is about to take place. Therefore it is my responsoibility to protect myself, my family and my property and I have a weapon at hand to use if necessary, thanks to the founding fathers of this country.

It's a guaranteed right in our Constitution to be able to bear arms. It's not easy to obtain a gun in this country legally. You have to fill out paper work and wait two weeks while they do a background investigation. In some states, you can't own a gun unless it's for hunting. I think Iraq, Somalia, and places like that have more gun deaths per capita than the United States. Check your facts. The problem is that they don't report their gun deaths. Go protest somewhere else.

The question that always comes up for me when discussing the wide ownership of guns in the USA is:
What is the role of 'Law Enforcement' Agencies in the USA if everybody is allowed to go around carrying arms?
It seems to me that Americans don't trust their police to do the job, hence every citizen 'must have the right to bear arms'.
In no other country in the world is this 'right' enshrined in a Constitution.
It doesn't make sense. But then again, many things done or implemented in the US doesn't make sense to the rest of the world.

You do realize the first recorded murder was with a rock. And you do realize that a person can be killed with anything from shoe laces through nuclear weaponry right?
The last murder in my town was with a knife, and there are plenty of firearms in this town. By going with your logic there should be a shoot out every day here, but there hasn't been a shooting in this town in years.

We have gun control that works for honest citizens. The problems is the crooks that don't follows the laws.
More guns are use in self defense and to protect property . The liberal media do not want to report that.

Yes, many people in the U.S. have guns. However, don't imagine that gun violence is common in the U.S., because it is not. The press reports are greatly exaggerated. I feel much safer on the streets of the U.S. than in many other countries.
I think one reason that I feel safer is that I know that many decent citizens are armed. In many countries, only the criminals will have weapons, so it is difficult for citizens to defend themselves. Here in the U.S., it is possible to defend yourself.

Yes its easy to have a gun in the USA. It's a constitutional right we have. People kill with bombs strapped on them, with knives, tools, cars, drugs, poisons, and even words. What's your point?

The right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Ammendment of the US Constitution. In other words--this is a tenet of American society.
"Normal" is a relative construct. What is normal treatment of female offspring in China is decried in the US. What is normal attire for women in the middle east is considered constricting and perhaps insulting in the US.
Men having multiple wives is normal in certain countries.
Don't judge US "normal" by the standards of your culture and ethnicity--and we won't judge yours by ours, OK?
