The plumbling company told me they don't go into the wall. can I change it myself? Is it difficult?

It's not difficult to do, just a little messy.

Sounds like the valve is worn out or damaged. Just purchase a good plumbing book and your on your way.

Once you have the tools and everything else you need, the job shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to do.

Of course that doesn't include the time required to repair the wall. The time needed to fix that would vary according to the materials it is constructed out of.

It's easy. Shut off the water, tear the wall out by the faucets, remove the old faucets, install new ones, and replace the wall.

Should only take about 6 hours.

call a different plumbing company as the one you called sounds like their idiots. there should be an access panel where you can gain access to the valve and replace it. if not then you just need to take it apart from the tub side.
