Why is there such a negative stigma attached to being single? It is 2007; I don't really think it has anything to do with thinking that a person is not attractive or endearing enough to find a mate, yet there is still this stigma attached to those who are not married. Why?

Let me clarify myself. Maybe there is not pressure to get married, but there is still a negative stigma attached to those who don't get married. Why is that?

Some married people can't emagine being single because they are not independent people and need others to make them happy. Some married people just didn't like being single so they try to help and don't realize some people like being single and living freely to do as they wish.

Actually there is a lot less pressure now days than in the past. If you can't handle the pressure, you definitely shouldn't be getting married. Lets be honest here, much of that "pressure" is coming from your own age group. Those that have already made the mistake...you know: misery loves company.

I dont think that theres nearly as much pressure as there was in past decades. I didnt plan on getting married at all - I was single self sufficient and happy. then I met someone that I fell in love with and knew he was the one I wanted to spend forever with. I didnt take the decision lightly and its not something to be made as such. Whatever lifestyle I was living - happily single or happily married - it was my choice and people didnt pressure me either way. Have your own mind and if it happens it happens, if it doesnt you dont need it. Politely tell whomever is harping on it that its not their business and your life has its own course to follow.

the reason is that people think they need to get their life started...it might not be the best thing to do, longterm though...
