She is a trooper. But I feel so sorry for her. She flinches when I touch the swelling and I have given her butte for the pain. I wondered if cold packs or heat would make it feel better for her?
She is eating ok. She was given to me and I just want her to live her life out in peace.

Bute will ease the pain. To help reduce swelling stand her in a dam.

If you can get her in cold water that will help. If not apply an ice pack to the swollen area for fifteen minutes at a time. Do this several times a day.

Call your vet and either take her to the vet or find a large animal vet who can come to your mare. You don't want to risk the horse bleeding internally. Let the vet tell you how to treat this injury.

I can't see how just "guessing" is going to provide any quality of life for this poor horse. Call the vet.

Last month, my horse got kicked in the gut. Scans later revealed a "rip" in the intestine. Have it checked.
