boys outnumber girls by 7

let b = # of boys
g = # of girls

b=g +7

class of 33

b+g = 33

rearranging the first equation we get

b - g = 7

subtracting this from the previous equation we get

2 g = 33 - 7 = 26

g = 13

Girls are represented by G
Boys are represented by B
B+G = 33 (which says the number of girls plus boys is 33)
G+7 = B (which says there are 7 more boys than girls)
You can substitute the second expression into the first equation in for B. (G+7 is equal to B so you can replace B with G+7)
G+7+G = 33
2G + 7 = 33 (Combined like terms)
2G = 26 (Subtracted 7 from both sides)
G = 13 (Divided by 2 on both sides)
There are 13 Girls

Letting b be boys, and g be girls, then b=g+7.
And b+g=33.
So, substituting, (g+7)+g=33, or 2g=33-7=26.
So, g=26/2= 13.
And b=33-13=20.

So, there were 13 girls, and 20 boys.

You can do it 2 ways.
33-7= 26 = equal number girls and boys
26/2=13= number girls
13+7 = 20 = number boys

or let x=number girls
let x+7= number of boys
x + x + 7 = 33
2x+7=33
2x=33-7
x=26/2
x=13

Ex: the number of boys = x
the number of girl = x-7

so

x+(x-7)=33
x+x=33+7
2x =40

x = 20

that the boy is 20 persons, then substitute to the linier system to find what numbers of the girls

girl = x -7
20-7
=13 peresons

the number of girls is 26 because you have to subtract 7 from 33 so it gives you 26

call the number of girls x. Then the number of boys is x+7 and the total is
33 = x + (x + 7) so that
33 = 2x + 7
26 = 2x
13 = x
and there are 13 girls and 20 boys.

I'll be using algebra for your question.

Let x be the number of girls.
Let x+7 be number of boys.

Add them up.
x+x+7=33

2x = 26
x = 13

hope that helps :)

33/2=16.5
7/2=3.5
16.5+3.5=20
16.5-3.5=13
20 boys
13 girls
