Hi there. I am sorry about your cherry tree.
I wish there was a bit of information here about your tree's symptoms.

Cherry trees, (prunus), require full sun and well-drained soil. Does the tree have these two things?

Rock fruit such as cherry, apple, and plum all want good drainage and lots of sun.

Watch out for tent caterpillars in these trees. Tent caterpillars can kill a small tree if they infest it regularly.

Cherry trees can be attacked by a variety of insects and diseases including:

black cherry aphids, (new leaves twisted or curled). Treat with insecticidal soap. As a last resort rotenone.
pear slugs, (leaves covered with lacy, brown patches). Treat with insecticidal soap.
oriental fruit moth (new growth wilts and dies). use moth traps.

cherry leaf spot, (purple spots on leaves). fungus. lime-sulfur or sulfur spray.
powdery mildew, (white coating on leaves, and curl): sulfur spray
brown rot, (twigs decay and turn brown): check with farmers extension service on best course of action in your area
bacterial canker, (leaves wilt and die on whole branches): prune off and discard affected branches and use pruners treated between cuts with rubbing alcohol and/or bleach solution.

other possibilities:
peachtree borers: must be hand dug out.

Lots of things can go wrong with fruiting trees. If the tree is very important to you, it is important that you speak with an arborist or a local orchardist. If your tree can be saved, these two professionals can tell you how.

Good luck.

I looked at your question to see what kind of response you were getting because my Cherry tree is very sick as well. It's about 40 years old, & last year gave us a full crop of cherries. This year all of the top brances are bare, & most of the bottom ones are as well.
I wish I had an answer for you. I live in Toronto Ontario. If you are in a similar area then I wonder if there's a disease going around that's killing Cherry trees because I have other trees & bushes on the same property & no sign of trouble with them.
I am thinking about calling in a tree expert, I hope it isn't already too late.

The most common cause of sick cherry trees is cherry borers.
Ask your local garden center what is the common problem and how to treat it.
Just be careful what you use.

not knowing why it's sick, the first thing I would do is prune any dead branches, then I'd fertilize at the drip line, the circle under the furthest branches If you have a nursery or a home depot near you the folks in the plant/tree area can help you or visit

try pruning it , not to harshly at first, but find for sure any dead limbs that are present and get rid if them.. My Neighbor often takes some cuttings when her tree blossoms in the spring and puts them in vases for a nice easy inexpensive flower arrangement that smells wonderful, and she says eash year it will get bushier and bushier when you manage to trim them up. it won't be an overnight fix, but if you love your tree and want to keep ot be patient and prune, also look to see if there are damaged areas in the trunk. another option would be to have a county extension agent or someone from a local nursery come out and look at your tree if you want a professional opinion.if it's still producing flower and fruits though you might want to try and save it.. also fruit bearing trees do better when they have another of their species to cross pollenate with so you might consider getting another to keep it company. :) hope this answer is a little better than your first one!

The roots of your tree have rotted. Poorly drained soil, or sometimes too much water. My orange tree nearly died of it, but luckily it was small enough. We uprooted it, scrubbed it'r roots REALLY hard until all the dead bits dropped off, and planted it back in. It was flowering in a month.
