I worked at a cleaner for 2 years and found out just after I left everyone got paid back pay as we were not getting paid enough.
One girl got paid £600 and she was there for less time than me.
Obviously i was slightly peed off but my old boss said "no you don tget it because you left".... is she right? I worked for Devon County council... if that helps :)

It depends on how the situation came to light ~ it might have been brokered by a trade union (which may have agreed cut off points re eligibility to receive back pay.

Your best bet would be to contact them (if you were in one) and take it from there failing that you could pursue the matter privately via a tribunal (you would need to look into the cost effectiveness of this first though).

Put it another way. AFTER you left, lets say the police raided the joint and arrested everybody for dope smuggling or something to that sense.....do you feel that you should be part of that party? Or would you feel lucky that you left in time?

Orrr, a viral disease infected that building and everybody who was there is now deathly ill. Did you want to be in that group? Would you not feel lucky cause you left in time?

Orrrr, a madman came in and shot everybody in sight. You quit so you were not there. Wanna go back and take one for the "gipper"?

You take the good and the bad. You didn't hang in there, so the boss is right and would be extending himself to pay everybody a bonus (including all those that worked for him in the past).

What utter tosh., if you have been paid less than you ought to have been by law the Council have acted illegally. take advice from Citizens Advice Bureau or if still in your union take it up with them. however be warned it may cost more time and effort than it is worth. This is why the lying thieving blighters get away with it.
Would it not be worth while to take the matter up with your local councilor

You need to go to someone in authority at the Council, not your immediate boss. Try the payroll department for starters, then if no luck, go to HR.

it shouldn't matter if you left willingly or not. You didn't get paid the rate you were supposed for the time you were there, therefore, should be collecting back pay.
