i don't know of anyone who's tried out for American Idol as i'm from australia, but i did have a friend who tried out for Australian Idol. every year, they kept making it into the 4th round, but would get illiminated after that. it was weird. they told the whole school that they were trying out for Australian Idol (by the way, this person is a guy, and he's gay), and would boast about making it to the 4th round, but when people asked him if he got to see the judges (mark holden, marcia hines, ian "dicko" dickson), he had said that if he had made it past the 4th round, he would have seen the judges. i think what happens is that you fill out this form, and you get given a number. you are then split up in groups. they get you to audition individually. those judges put in the contestants they like, as well as add those that are good for the entertainment value, and the ones that make it through get to see the actual judges (which in america would be randy jackson, paula abdul, and simon cowell). it is then up to those judges to decide who makes it through to the next round and who goes home. but yeah. it makes sense when you see thousands of people auditioning and not that many seeing the real judges of american idol

Sadly, no. I still have stage fright. And my friends would be really embarrassed if they messed up on TV.
