A friend recently related to me how he carried a woman (a total stranger) across a rain puddled road.
And how she was perturbed by the act.
Ladies, would this embarrass you?
Yahoo men, would you do this?

If she was perturbed maybe she didn't want to get across that road! My god, if somebody just picked me up and started carrying ME across the road I'd be more than perturbed!
And no, I wouldn't carry anybody across a raid puddled road without their permission. That's the kind of gentleman I am!
[Sheesh! Such a question!]

I don't know when it became and embarrassment, but it's a shame that it has. I don't know that I would like a man to carry me across a puddle, but only because 1.I like jumping puddles and 2.I hate being picked up by anyone.

But I know what you mean. It seems people are shocked these days to find chivalrous men and it's a shame. I think it's a fine quality and one of the first I look for. The notion that chivalry is dead is simply not true as long as people like us keep fighting for it.

Yes, I would do this, though I would imagine that a woman would be preturbed by the act since, for a moment, control and choice is being taken away from her. It is an uncommon feeling for many women to feel, for a moment, helpless. While they may secretly revel in such feelings, they would feel uncomfortable or embarrassed if such things came to be. I chalk this up with the idea of lending a hankerchief, jacket or umbrella, and strolling on traffic-side of the walk.

If what you say is true, THAT'S the embarrassment. It's another example of American society regressing not progressing. It's been replaced with empowerment, todays women would rather get wet feet than ( god forbid) accept help from a man.
Yes, I have done that and will again.
Long live honorable and chivalrous men. I'm glad I'm old-fashioned.

It doesn't embarrass me. I think men should be men and part of being a man is taking care of your girl. I still open doors for women and try to be a gentleman at all times. Some women are offended by it and that's too bad. It doesn't make me act any differently. Most women still like and appreciate being treated with respect and dignity by the men around them.

With the prevalence of feminist attitudes, it's a wonder he wasn't prosecuted.

I miss the days when men would open doors for me. But I never had anyone carry me across a road:)

~~** It did embarrass me coz once in my college campus i had an accident (fell from the stupid scooty of my friend & the whole thing on me & especially on my right leg & left me terribly injured). My hands & legs were all severly bruised. It was hurting like hell & i couldn't even walk a single step.
So a boy (of my age but was a junior) of my college had to carry me in his arms on to another of my friend's scooty so that she could drop me home**~~. There was no way he had to do it but i was very embarrased. Coz i don't like ......oh ! u can understand ! why ? ofcourse u can .In our college boys & girls make mounds out of mole hills & i fear embarrasment the most. But thank God the boy helped me ! My leg & feet were hurting terribly at that time.**~~
Maybe u r right chivalry is becoming embarrasment now a days.

Do you know my Husband?
I love chivalry, that is one of the many reasons I married him.
On our first date my Husband and I were out walking, I was wearing high heels, we came to a muddy area and without a thought he scooped me up and carried me across. I think I fell in love with him that very moment!

This wonderful, very strong guy would be kissed and thanked because I'm 6'2" tall and he'd have carried a very heavy load (I would have my dog in my arms too). I'd be shocked more than embarrassed!!!

Yes, I would be embarrassed.

We are now taught that physical contact with strangers is a no no.

Lending me a hand to help me up would be one thing. Carrying me would be another.
