The way you have phrased your question indicates that you have already dismissed the seriousness of anything the "liberals" say. Nevertheless, please consider a few points: First, both liberals and now even a few conservative Republicans have realized that our troops need to be extricated from a civil war (and I say that not as a liberal but as a moderate). Second, there is no "war," since there is no defined enemy or purpose. Third, not everyone who claims to have WMD's is a terrorist - we have them, Britain has them, India, Pakistan, Israel, France, etc. Fourth, oil is a motivating factor but inasmuch as the price has skyrocketed since we invaded Iraq, we clearly need to rethink this. Finally, if there is another attack here and the Democrats are in power, perhaps they will be more likely to enable us to once again become a respected partner in the international community and, obviously, a united front would be more effective in dealing with the problem. Would they go after the people who did it to us? Of course they would, but hopefully they would do so with a clear entrance and exit strategy, with a more well-defined target, and with the support of other countries.

At first, people were outraged because we entered a war under false pretenses. As it went on, it became obvious that it was too late to just pull out because it became a terrorist haven and training ground. Then people wanted the troops out because Bush was relying on winning this conflict through military means only which would have been endless and hopeless. Since Bush has finally been pressured into either pulling out or using the Iraq study group plan, he has decided to use the other means that have been available to him all along through a political process in Iraq and engaging in dialog with Iraq's neighbors. At last there is a glimmer of hope.
I hate to be a pessimist, but the reality is that there will be another attempt to attack the U.S. no matter whether the republicans or the democrats win. They don't care about our politics as they would have you believe. They play psychological games or any game to create division, conflict, and fear in the U.S. Some people want to make the liberals your enemy instead of the real enemy. Fear is the enemy.
This war has caused many more terrorists and much deeper and far reaching problems for the U.S. than would have been necessary.

You really don't read the news, do you. The Hussein Regime, though cruel and uncivilized, had nothing to do with the World Trade Center bombing (911).
Osama bin Ladin (Afghanistan) planned and financed that attack.
Read a book: "A World Transformed," George H.W. Bush.--the 41st President of the United States, not the 43rd. Go to page 486. He prophesied what would happen if we went to Baghdad. Check it out.
I think you will see why so many Americans--not Liberals, Conservative, Democrat, Republican, or Greens--want the troops out of Iraq.
Despite this fact, I believe we must stay at this point. We cannot leave a broken country behind. If we do, the United States will never be seen as THE world leader again.
We have to do what is right and finish what we started, even though it might hurt.

I want the troops home because we have won the war. We are occupying Iraq and have gotten mired down in a Civil War. I want the Iraqi forces, the Iraqi police, and the Iraqi government to step up. They will never stand on their own 2 feet as long as we carry them.
Liberals are not the only ones questioning the continued occupation.
With allies in enemy ranks, GIs in Iraq are no longer true believers
"I thought, 'What are we doing here? Why are we still here?' " said Safstrom, a member of Delta Company of the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. "We're helping guys that are trying to kill us. We help them in the day. They turn around at night and try to kill us."
His views are echoed by most of his fellow soldiers in Delta Company, renowned for its aggressiveness.

I would be the first to say that Bush has botched the job, that much is clear. And to Libs the motto is "If at first you don't succeed, give up" That's why they want out in part, they just don't have the determination to stick to anything, and of course there's the political advantage of making it a failure, which is more important to them than our success. They don't have any doubt that if we leave Al Qaeda alone that we will pay with more civilian casualties, they just don't care as long as their political aspirations are met. The vast majority of them voted for the war to begin with, they know what's at stake regardless of the lies they have told since. They are just making a political calculation.

Sir, please don't equate the war in Iraq with the 9/11 attack on the USA. It is that kind of mis-knowledge that got us into this mess. Why would our troops have blown up an oil refinery just a few months ago...maybe more like a few years ago? In any event, it's not the refinery, it's the pipeline, supply, etc. There are too many troops getting killed and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis also. The administration keeps saying we must reach our goal and stay the course. I'm not sure what our goal is anymore...
Please don't believe that it is just liberals (people don't even understand what the word liberal means anymore thanks to Rush's ignorant spouting), but most Americans, young, old, conservative, etc. that want desperately for our troops to come home.

Liberals have opposed this war as they have opposed all wars. Had there been a mass media around when this country was formed to amplify their voices, there would be no America. They see war as taking money away from their social causes. To them, nothing is about what its about, but about what they say its about. (pardon me while I amaze myself with the fact that I've never used the word "about" so many times in a sentence!) We fought WW1 and WW2 not because of them, but in spite of them. By the time Viet Nam came along their speaker system (the media) was fully intact and because of liberals, and their media, we'll never win another war. Their job is to make all of us think we are losing so they can get back to creating more social causes. That's what socialism is about.

>>most likely there's going to be another attack on the U.S.A<<<
why you idiots cons think an Iraq war is stopping an attack on US soil is why you guys are a joke. If an Islamic attack could be done NOW it would be done NOW. al Qaeda simply doesn't have to resources to mount an attack.

"Is it because there's too much of our troops getting killed? But in any war there's always going to be casualty's right?" Exactly. That's why all war is bad. "Or is it because it is a pointless war to stop terrorist that claimed they had WMD's?" That's another reason.
