Just got a new one and have to transfer from old. It.s hot out, can I transfer safely or should I get ice and coolers until it reaches its proper temperaure.

It takes about 12 hrs for most to get to their stable temperature and it helps them stay cold if there's a lot of stuff in the refrigerator. If you still have the old one working I'd just wait the 12 hrs. (A thermometer is a great help--you can buy them in most grocery stores). If you don't have the old one working I'd use the ice.
