The measure of a man is within the limits of his abilities and the moral, ethical and spiritual dilemmas he faces. If a man should be what he can be then he can also be what he should not be. How far one can go … how high one can rise … and how tall one can grow, are all within teh scope of these limitations. One can go on to become a powerful dictator, for instance, only to fall short of the standards of humanity; on the other hand one can be just e himself, a normal family person and fulfil all the merits of successfulness within his own limited but happy existence.

How the man overcomes fear. Standing up for less fortunate. Putting his job, life, reputation at risk to help others or to overcome racism. That is the measure ( in my opinion ) and that is extremely rare.

His ability to love his fellow man despite all reasons he should not.
This is not forgiveness, for forgiveness admits fault in the first place. Rather it would be condemning no man for a fault you yourself could be guilty of, and instead helping them to be a better person.
