The information on immobilizers isn't readily available so that the "bad guys" don't get it and steal our cars. The dealers are privy to it of course. But, there should be a simple way for you, the car owner, to know if the immobilizer security has failed or is preventing you from starting your car so that if it isn't, you can find out what the problem is. I would suspect that if the immobilizer has been tripped that there's a security dash lamp or computer code set to alert you to the security problem. Check your owner's manual and see what it says about the security features on your car and the dash lamp indications for it. An OBD-II code reader or scanner probably tells the service technician if the immobilizer is keeping the car from starting. You can purchase your own, inexpensive OBD-II code reader to help troubleshoot your problem http://www.actron.com The listing of OBD-II generic error codes may include immobilizer flags, but they are also specific to the "enhanced" OBD-II data that a car dealer's code scanner is able to read.
