when i was a child my tv viewing was restricted to what my parent's thought was "suitable". if today's parent's can't do that, then thats their problem.also,if they put tv's in kids rooms then again it is their problem. Big Brother is on tv for approx 12 weeks during the summer and 2-3 weeks in January.soaps, with ridiculous storylines are all in multitudes, all year round. also if you switch on the news you will see a load of nutters that we all tut and shake our heads ,but these people are "real" life.
Nowadays kids are getting away with giving cheek to teachers,abuse/harassing adults in the street( i have been a victim of this from a 13 year old,i had to report him to the police,he just laughed in their faces and said i was a liar!.)
Yes,Big Brother is nonsense, and the people on it are simply looking for attention and for what they can get after BB ends. If parents dont want kids watching tv,then turn it off,or send them to bed, after all it is often on at 10pm!.

Well, I read a psychology/sociology journal once that talked about this very issue. Its been two years, so I don't remember or even know if I can find the link to it. Basically what it said, was that the reason why the majority of people judge how good a person is by their appearance, and why a person wants to go out with (and eventually marry and have kids) is because attractive people live better. Now, let me explain this a bit. What it means, is that two people of equal skill and ability, would mutually survive in life, when given the circumstances, but if one of them is ugly and the other is considered attractive, then the attractive one will be generally accepted. Also, people are attracted to attractive people because if they are able to have kids with that person, then the chance of one of their kids being attractive, are high. Thus, the kid will be treated better in life since he looks better. Now, this is basic human fundamentals. The most basic goal of man (human that is) is to live and reproduce, so people do whatever it takes to insure that their kids have the best chance at surviving. So if attractive people are treated better, then a person would want to have an attractive kid, so that their chance of living is greater. Overtime, people realize that what a person is like on the outside, might not truly show how they are in the inside, thus we say "its not whats on the outside that counts, but whats in the inside". However, the fact of the matter is that people with the good looks, will be treated better in society. Also, no matter how hard we say we shouldn't judge people by looks, we all judge people by their looks, period. Some do this more than others though, while others do it less than others. Its nothing to be ashamed about, because its human nature. Conclusion: Judging people by looks is human nature. Always have, and always will.

It is up to the individual who watches it to educate any underage or child about watching such programmes.
There are a lot of weirdos in our world - you don't always have to go to London to realise this.
It would be helpful also if All Schools and Adults taught the children that actually it is not very nice to kill another person regardless of race, colour, religion or beliefs - nor if they belong in a different gang either.
Can all Adults on the planet set a good example and not do this any more - that way the news on radio or tv would not have any violence to show the young minds.
Also violence in computer games is not helpful either.

I hate BB and everything it is about, but I don't think it is resposible to the state of our society. I think the way that children are brought up, effects our society (and this is coming from a teenager). I hate they way that people blame violence on TV and in video games as the downfall of our society since countries go to war. What does that teach children? What about the way that the media show the world? Doesn't that have an effect on society? BB isn't the cause of the downfall of society, the world is.

You have hit the nail on the head. I really do think that if people from other countries are watching it and think all us Brits are like them. I think they deliberately pick people with issues and weird tendencies to rate the viewing numbers. I don't think parents really care what their children watch on tv anymore as my friends 8 year old is addicted to it. Sad I know but that's the way of the world now. I totally agree with you!

No big brother is not responsible for the state of our society it is a symptom of the poor standards which now affect us all
When I look back I am shocked as to how much my own standards have gone down, but I'm told by other people without me asking them that my standards are high.
If that is the case then standards generally must have dropped

Parents don't know how to bring up children anymore, it's not BB's fault. I know 'cos I was an au pair once and believe me, the kid (5 year old girl) I was in charge of could manipulate her mother anyhow she liked. And if parents allow young children to watch BB - which is usually on at 10pm, that's really tragic.

BB is sadly yet another TV show pandering to the idiots of society.
This piece of crap penetrates all levels of people's life (it is constantly discussed at work, in school, on the bus). Celeb BB is even worse (most celebs on it are even worse and less well known than on ITV's I'm A Celeb...Get Me Out Of Here).
The only way to get rid of this piece of crap is stop watching it. Unfortuantely, most people watching it do not have the sense to realise how bad this show actually is.
BB (and all other reality shows) contribute nothing at all to society - at any level.
At least Sesame Street taught children how to count (I doubt Jade Goody can count to eleven without taking of her socks and shoes).
