A male friend of mine (we've been friends for many years) recently asked me on my birthday, "If I could grant you any wish, what would you wish for?" I did give an answer, but I'm curious what you would wish for in my situation. He is someone I consider as a true friend, and cares about me a lot, but I would never marry him, yet apparently I'm the girl of his dreams. So what would you wish for?

I've seen how friends that we thought would always be there, they suddenly go away, we grew apart, they moved or whatever...
In your situation, I would say, I'd wish that our friendship will last forever and we'll always be friends no matter who we'll grow up to be or how far apart life takes us.
