I started a new fish tank, 1 or 2 months ago, added 4 fish after 2 weeks, then after another 2 weeks I added another 4 fish, 2 died a week ago. I just got back from my holiday, and now there are baby snails everywhere!!!!!!!! What shall I do? Where did they come from? I regularly gravel clean and syphon the tank. Should I keep them?

Thankyou! x

Cheri pretty much said what I was going to. You've got yourself some pond snails.
There are three different reactions to these snails. One, they are horrible and will destroy all plants and pollute the water and must die at any cost.
Two, they are natural and part of the system and let us leave them alone.
Three, they are great assets because they eat some algae. Well, they do eat plants but fish and other animals eat the snails in return too. Thus, I think that you should treat plants to kill snails before adding them BUT, when they show up anyway (they will!!), you have to do something because they will take over your tank. Pond snails are hermaphroditic (they have male and female parts) egg-layers that breed very fast. They can fertilize themselves but prefer to swap with another snail. Good luck getting rid of 'em!

All it takes is a couple snails to start, then they'll multiply all over the tank, as you've noticed.

Snails aren't bad for the tank or the fish unless they start dying. Then the decay will poison the tank.

There is no reason to sterilize your tank. This will kill everything, not just the snails.

The best way to get rid of snails is to get a loach. Loaches love to eat snails right out of their shells. I would recommend either a yo-yo loach or a clown loach. Either species will clear up your snail problem in short order.

Noseless is stable yet he didnt point out each and every element. Fancy kinds would desire to have 30 gallons, (20 is pushing it) with double filtiration and 10 gallons for each additonal fish although in case you decide on undemanding or comet goldfish you decide on an seventy 5 gallon tank with double filtiration because of the fact established undemanding goldfish are technically pond fish. 20 gallons consistent with one greater fish

you're going to have to sterilize the tank and everything in it, including the filter assembly. they will kill off your fish because of all the poop they make. a cheap way to sterilize is to fill the tank then add about a cup of bleach, let it set over night then rinse well. fill the tank again with the filters going and let set for a couple of weeks to see if any snails appear. if they do, streilize again but with more breach. snails lay their eggs EVERYWHERE.
