yes. because people believe that silence requisites humility and people oft to misjudge a person as pretentious when in fact he's just being honest.

Yes, such one would be accused of pretension because people expect total consistency between words and action of others. In other words, if one lets known one's noble intentions or aspirations, others would recall or pick on inevitable failings that every human is subject to.
Be that as may, we need to ignore such reactions and continue to strive sincerely for betterment through high aim and endeavour..... that alone would help us progress.... if we put a brake worrying over getting branded as pretentious, we would be left merely ruing over our existing failings and weaknesses.

Yes. Saying that we live for your own fun times (see answer above) is acceptable in the public square. It is acceptable in the public square to say that I do my good deeds and I'm kind to everyone because "it makes me feel good inside". Feeling good and being happy and seeking good times is acceptable.
Saying that I seek the face of God in the people I deal with every day is running a risk. Saying everyone is my brother or sister because we were all created by the same God is running a risk. The banality of saying I help other people because it makes me feel good is much safer.
ps Writing in all caps is the same as shouting and is therefore impolite. It is also harder to read.
