Type in a verse in exact terms in quotation marks, put it in the Yahoo search engine, it works well example: "Dont put my love upon no shelf".

Try typing the lyrics on Yahoo or Google. If not, go to sites like http://www.letssingit.com. You can type in a short string of lyrics of the song in the search box, choose the 'Lyrics' option, and it will immediately look for songs that have those words or related words.

take a couple of lines out of the part of the song that is on the tape. any part[s] of it that you can, the chorus, whatever. and type them into www.google.com with the word "lyrics" at the end of it, and search that. it should come up with what you are looking for.

so for pure example, if you have part of the song and they sing "the birds were on the trees, LA LA LA LAAAAAA",
then you want to type "the birds were on the trees, LA LA LA LAAAAAA lyrics"

i do this ALL the time. sometimes many many times per day. sometimes i will be sitting at home listening to the radio, and a new song [or even old song] will come on that i enjoy, and i quickly type 1 or 2 lines into google, it shows me who sings the song, i write it down on a notepad, and i later download the song on limewire, along with all the rest of the songs that i have written down on that notepad.

great way to keep up with all the new music.
good luck. =)

Listen to the Chorus.
What is repeated.
I've found songs that way.

Then check in
amazon.com, Rhapsody, or RealPlayer
to see if it's there, and you can listen to it
and also buy it to. :-)
