the concentration of ozone in the ozone layer is very small, it is vitally important to life because it absorbs biologically harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation emitted from the Sun. UV radiation is divided into three categories, based on its wavelength; these are referred to as UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C. UV-C, which would be very harmful to humans, is entirely screened out by ozone at around 35 km altitude. However it is interesting to note that ozone gas is a pollutant at lower levels and cause severe problems like oedema, hemorrage etc.

Actually, if you watch Al Gore's new documentary called An Inconvenient Truth about global warming there's a mention of that. It says that due to getting rid of CFCs, the ozone hole problem has been fixed. That's why he goes on to explain that trying to stop global warming is not a futile effort.

Its actually been repairing itself. The last few years, the yearly hole that opens up has been getting smaller. Of course, the loony libs would have you believe otherwise.
