If you're just doing simple word processing you don't have to have MS Word unless your workplace requires it. Many free alternatives are available such as Libre Office, Open Office (these can be downloaded as Office Software Suites or you can just download the word processor portions), Abiword, Jarte, etc. These can also be downloaded as portable apps so that they do not add more junk into the Windows Registry (presuming you have a laptop with the MS Windows Operating System installed on it, but free alternatives to MS Word exist for the Mac and Linux as well). Navigate to your C: drive and create a folder called C:\portableapps; then once you double-click on the portable app install file, it will do the rest. Then you can just create a shortcut on your desktop. A lot of people just use cloud based alternatives such as Zoho or Google Docs. If you really have to have a version of MS Word, Microsoft themselves gave out Microsoft Word 5.5 for DOS for free but unless you are "old school" or are technically skilled, you are probably better off sticking with word processors that use a GUI (Graphical User Interface). HTH (Hope This Helps).
