"Ova" is the plural of "ovum," a Latin word that means the eggs in your fallopian tubes. When you reach puberty (begin to have your period), it happens because an ovum comes down the fallopian tubes. This is called "ovulation." If the egg (ovum) is not fertilized by sperm, it passes out through the tubes and you get your period. If it is fertilized, it implants itself into your uterus (womb) and you are pregnant. You ovulate once a month, beginning on average at about 12 years of age. At around age 52, on average, you reach "menopause," which means you don't ovulate any more, don't menstruate (get your period--menses, in Latin, for the word "month"), and you can no longer get pregnant. Most women ovulate for about 40 years!
