Sometimes a woman can have a period twice in one month (I had it happen a couple of times) because of like the first poster said problems with my period being irregular.
This was the case for the first few years after I started having my periods.
Bleeding that occurs during the month other than the period can also indicate possible infection so I would recommend getting in touch with your dr to see what they think.

My first question for you is what is your age? If you are a younger woman, meaning a teenager and up even into your 20s, it can simply be that you are irregular. Many women do not develop regular cycles for a very long time.
If your menstrual cycles are already very regular, regardless of whether they are monthly, or every six weeks, or whatever, then you should speak to your doctor. He or she may want you to have a checkup to make sure everything is okay. You may also want to contact your doctor for you own peace of mind. However, just be aware that many young women have a problem with their menstrual cycles being irregular.
I wish you the best.

Are you fairly new to having your period? It can take years for a woman's cycle to settle down. Even after that the occasional long or short period is nothing unusual. Are you sexually active? It might have also been a brand new pregnancy that terminated itself...80% of all women have a miscarriage sometime in their life and most will never realize it... it can look like a period out of place...
You are probably fine, especially if you are young and not sexually active. A quick call to the Gyno nurse at your clinic might be in order, just to be sure...
