Instead of 2012 being some kind of doomsday I had the idea that the mayan calendar could have stopped at the year 2012 of our calender because time will somehow change as we know it. Perhaps the switching of the poles or speed or distance of the planets.

Or maybe something we cannot even imagine happening but that changes time in some strange way. Almost as a new Earth.

the Mayan Calender ends Dec 17, 2012. I do not know if that means anything God only knows that mystery. there is a lot of talk though about a polar shift.

I think the Mayan calendar stopped at the year 2012 because of a practical consideration. Simply put, limits. You get out of the house to do obligations. You know you will spend money, but do not know how much. Nobody ever sits down, calculate expenses, then take out that amount. Everybody guesses at how much money will be required, then takes that amount and some extra to cover the unforeseen.

By the same reasoning, the Mayans did their calendar with certain objectives. Then, they added some extra time, as much as necessary to cover the unexpected. The result is that their calendar stops at one point.

I should say that we are more advanced in numbers than they were. Our calendars run to infinity, which, I suspect, theirs could not do.

I saw this same question in another category. It is something to use for a fantasy story, but it has no relationship to the real world. Why should anyone believe the ancient Mayans were so wise they could predict Doomsday or time shifts? I have read about dozens of Doomsday predictions, and they are all nonsense. I am skeptical about time shift. As I said, write a story about it, but do not believe it.

Put this question under some spiritual or alternate category. It has nothing to do with science.
