Gain? Points, and the accopanying ego boost, of course!
LOL...seriously though...I don't know about anyone else, but for me, I like to take time to give a seriously thought out answer. I figure, if someone is asking, they really want an answer, so if they took the time to form a question, I'll take my time to form and answer. There's also the learning something angle. Sometimes I'll answer something I'm only vaguely aware of, or know only a little about, because it gives me a chance to explore it more deeply, and forming a good answer in that instance helps me retain what I've just "learned". Actually, the ego boost quip was part of a serious answer. It's a nice feeling when your answer is chosen as best.......

We take such care because it is who we are, deep down. We care about others, we want to share our experiences, and our education. It also confirms to ourselves that we have integrity. In the larger community of the world, we can meet up with people who need our knowledge, where, in our own locales we may never have the opportunity to share what we have gained. I have no children, and am retired, so I also have little contact with others. In a way, I could say this is my legacy.

Some of us obviously don't. Others want the one asking to be like them. Still others just want him to learn something.
Points are points - in Yahoo!. The worth of the answers themselves aren't really point-based. And there'd be no point to sites of intellectual discussion if people believed that anonymity means we shouldn't do our best.
The other person should gain something, and I believe I gain something by thinking through the question and my answer. It is a form of self-reflection if one is serious enough.

We are all trying to teach others about ourselfs and the world as we know it. So we want to be as clear as we possibly can be about it. Its about gaining influence into someone elses life if you're wise you'll understand that abusing that power means not expressing yourself well enoth. I other words we dont wana look like a foo.

"perfectly"? what is that? I just open up my mind and spit out whatever i wanna say... Is that perfect enough? I think so... I don't care about points... I ask if I want to and I answer if I want to. I don't make a living with YA points.

It makes us think and reflect on a topic we like. There are benefits to that for both parties.

It's not what you gain - is how you feel. If you have a little dignity and you like what you're doing, you try your best.
