I think it is because teaching its grammar is one of the most uninspiring cells for the condemned into which teachers and students willingly enter.
Who wants to teach adverbial and noun phrases, phrasal verbs and idioms and which student would want to fore go watching Popeye and Tin-tin just to cram nonsensical-sounding diphthongs and triphthongs symbols like:
aU@ sour VI@ fire
You must be a great teacher if you enjoy teaching these ludicrous and luciferous logolepsies!!

As a instructor, i could say that what makes coaching English complicated is that that's a residing, continuously starting to be and changing language. Too many instructors make the blunders of coaching English by utilising rote memorization, a manner which basically would not artwork. valuable English coaching calls for verbal replace, video games, and modern-day techniques; it could no longer study like math, or maybe Latin.

because english is an extremely complicated language with numerous confusing rules. I caught onto french faster than I did to english & I've known & spoke english since birth!
was quite surprised to find this question from you on the German site for Yahoo Answers called Yahoo! Clever. Teaching English in the US is quite a task because it is such a comprehensive job in comparison to some other curricular areas. English teachers are expected to cover reading to include comprehension, vocabulary, Greek and Latin roots, fact vs. opinion, main idea, details, etc.
Literature ties right in with reading. We cover many genre including various types of poetry, short stories, novels, plays, essays, and each of these forms includes literary terms students must learn and recognize. Of course, comprehension ties in here, and students must learn to recognize characterization, dialogue, descriptive, narrative techniques as well as passages that set tone, mood, add foreshadowing, etc.

Mainly due to grammar and all of the rules that go along with it. Then it doesn't help that sometimes the rules are broken. I work at a school and do a lot of reading and writing with 8-11 yr olds. It is hard to explain why we do things grammatically when other times we don't. Sometimes I'll have to just say, "I know it doesn't make sense but that's how it is."
