I keep hearing people talk about how Muslim women are suppressed (for example, being made to cover their heads), and I wondered what society would be worse to live in... that... or its polar opposite here in the US... women being objectified or sexually exploited?

Agreed. In the U.S., we have so much 'choice'. We have padded bras, push-up bras, gel bras, plunge bras. And if you look hard enough, you might even be able to find a plain old boring one that just takes some of the weight without adding a cup size. Of course you won't be able to fill out the clothing, which is all designed with the assumption that you'll be maximizing your 'assets'.

Oh yes, choice is a wonderful thing. If they're selling what you want.

Great question...
I suppose neither one is a good situation. There is harm in suppression (obviously) and while western exploitation is so common it has become desensitized after so long that we often don't even realize it or see it.
We have to be educated about it and care about it morally and spiritually to get closer to a balance. And that is an incredible challenge with so much that is so easily available to exploit women.
Perhaps it needs to start at childhood - where children are taught the proper respect and roles of women and that thinking of them in lesser ways is not acceptable.

I have mixed feelings on this since I am a feminist. I have no problem with someone not showing all their assets. I love America and the fact we have freedom of choice. I am not going to threaten or maybe killed because I don't wrap myself up. I can be model or do what I want as long as its not hurting anyone. I do think America can be a bit over the top with sexuality and maybe even superficial. Its just the that you can be those things if you want. God created you nude its only mankind after they ate the apple that the became aware of their nudity. Its only people who try to justify what god wants or don't want which cause problems. People put limits on what they can and can't do sometimes more then god probably does.I personally am happy that if I wanted to pose nude for a picture I could. Can you

being Muslim is a religion. i don't see anything wrong with the women wanting to "cover their heads" as you put it.
you didn't know? the Lord gave us "Free Will". and i really don't think they are suppressed. i feel they do what they want to do.

Both are equally bad if they are forced on a woman. However, in the US women don't have to be sluts.....for some reason they do it on their own.

Don't they know real men like a good classy girl? sigh

great question.... i think a middle ground would be perfect... where women are respected and they have respect for themselves and their opinions revered and they are treated as equals .... just as Jesus preached...
