Yes they do! In fact my home is haunted by a small black cat wearing a pink collar. My living cats have seen her too, natch. One night I woke up suddenly because I felt someone leaning on my arm,and when I looked there was a black cat w/ a pink collar looking down the side of my bed;well I thought it was my cat Jenny and I said "what's the matter honey bun, is something wrong?" Well, the cat jerked her head around and looked at me, she was startled, she jumped off my bed and ran to my door (that was closed) I told her to wait so I could get the door for her (I still thought it was Jenny)but the cat ignored me and kept running, I had taken only a couple of steps when the cat Ran Through The Closed Door! I was stunned ! And when I turned around and looked at my bed there was Jenny sound asleep , I looked down at the floor and there was my other cat Callie who was staring at the door. I asked her if she saw the cat go through the closed door and she gave me a look that said "Well, duh!" I've seen that cat numerous times , I'm sure my cats can see her when I can't judging from their behavior. So,yes ghosts do exist. Not just human ones either.

This actually depends upon ones religious beliefs.
Any religion believing in reincarnation (Buddhism, Scientology, etc) would validate the possibility of ghosts, as the spirit could wander between lives.
Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc, belive in the soul which goes to paradise - generally this is non-optional, i.e. you go to heaven/purgatory/hell (alternative names, etc) and that's it - no wandering time. So the concept of a ghost is impossible, though no doubt a demon or angel would be a possibility to them.
Atheism totally invalidates the possibility, as with no god or spirituality there is nothing after death - and that would include no spirit to hang around, nor any other paranormal being.
I myself have had several encounters with ghosts - or actions which one could only attribute to ghosts, and whilst I (being of the reincarnation party) would be inclined towards their existence, I am skeptical that many 'unexplained' activities are the cause of wandering spirits.

Christian scholars say the dead remain so until Judgement Day, and atheists know ther is no life after death. At last, both can agree that there are no real ghosts. Your mother heard something else. Why not a fairy or a kawachi, instead of a ghost?

Yes they do. One time I was alone in my aunts house. Went to watch tv in her room. My body suddendly shocked and jumped a bit. That scared the HELL outta me. Sometimes weird unexplianable sounds used to come out of my step father's room--only when I was alone. Had to carry a baseball bat that night. Ghosts are well alive, and probably looking at me type this now....what ever you do DO NOT CALL A GHOST CASPER....

If you believe they exist, why are you asking?
But...don't you think that a person was laughing, not a ghost?

they do exist very much, and people that dont believe in them just dont understand it at all, until something happens...people have to experience one for them to believe they are real
