Is it legal to grow tobacco plants at home?

I live in Appin NSW Australia and was wondering if there were any laws regarding growing your own tobacco??

You can grow your own vegetables and fruit and tobacco. But not the funny stuff.

Because the seeds are no a problem. Plus, it's hard to determin exactly wha a seed is, unless it's germinated. What if someone owns cannabis seeds, but none of them germinate? How can you tell if a seed is something else? That sort of law is so hard to prosecute. How can you prove that someone KNEW they were cannabis seeds, and not, say, roses? If you're growing it, however, you know what it is. The plants are illegal. Any reason for growing the plant, be it for seeds or pot, is illegal. They do it because mostly, they don't have any plants. They buy them off people who live in Thailand, or Afghan, where we have no juristiction, and so we can't do anything about them buying the seeds.

I am in the USA, but am widely read, and have never heared of any laws against growing tobacco anywhere. Now other leafy smokables...

In the US there are no restrictions, it is just really hard to grow good stuff. Most of the people who do it live in a limited area and are subsidized farmers (unless they finally dropped the program and I missed it.)

YES!! And the punishments and fines can be worse than if you were caught with the same amout of weed.

Why grow tobacco? it will only give you cancer - you may as well grow "mary jane"
