I have a persistent fever that won't go down with medicine. I work nights so when I got off work Friday morning I felt chilly so I took my temperature, 101 degrees, I had a sore throat all night at work but didn't think anything of it. I took some ibuprofen and went to sleep. When I woke up the fever was gone and I was drenched with sweat, so I know it got to the breaking point. I didn't have a fever from when I woke up at five until about 9 30. It was 99.5 I took some tylenol this time and waited a few hours, took a cool bath and took it again about 1230, it was 100.8 again, I took some ibuprofen and checked it about 230 and it was 101 degrees. Any advice on what I should do without have to go to the doctor (last resort).

Sounds like YOU might have an INFECTION! Just keep doing what you are doing until Monday! Then contact your doctor.

Unless the fever is over 103 for more than two days I would really not be too worried about it. It's probably a slight infection or other illness that you would otherwise not have known about. Also, unless you are under two years of age, I think you are pretty safe.

If it does get to 102 or 103, I would get some towels and get them wet with tepid (not hot, not cold) water, and put them over myself and let them turn cold. This will cause the heat from your body to go through the moist towels and basically evaporate the water. Also drink a lot. Not cold drinks (it could put your body into shock)... Don't drink soda's or drinks that have too much sugar in them, as they can cause dehydration, that can make a fever worse.

If it does get above103 for a prolonged time, I would call a doctor about it. I could be something you may need an antibiotic for. Example: strep throat, or an ear infection (will sometimes cause a sore throat).

Well it sounds to me that the Ibuprofen worked better than the Tylenol.

This is what my mother did for me and I have always done for my children and now grandchildren.

Use Vicks vaporub on the outside of your throat when you sleep. When you wake up 98% of your problem will be gone.

This is a minor problem . Trust me with this problem neither I nor any of my family would be taken to the Doctor when you can solve it your self.

You probably have a virus or something that might require antibiotics to get rid of. Keep trying the tylenol and maybe some cool cloths or a cool bath? Hope you feel better!

You are sick and your body produces the fever to fight off the thing that's making you sick. So you really shouldn't take anything to lower your fever unless it gets too high for example, 103F, or maybe even 102F

You also need to rest.

If they're huge, just go to the dermatologists. Toothpaste and all that jazz works on a pimple or two. Please do go to the dermatologist, you'll save a lot of money from buying things that may not work.
