As the world's only remaining superpower, the US sets an example for the rest of the world, whether we or the rest of the world like it or not. by endorsing policies of torture and preemptive war, we only set an example for the world that will lead us further down a violent and bloody path. many of the current problems in the developing world (the middle east, central africa) can be attributed to the the redrawing of political boundaries following the end of WWII, which basically marked the end of explicit imperialism. We must pursue political and societal change to win this war on terror.

No, employing methods of brutal torture might not necessarily get the information you are looking for. Suspects could say virtually anything to get out of continuing to be tortured. I have heard also that the Israelis do not find such methods useful, preferring other ways to extract information. Fundamentally, It goes against the core of what free societies are all about. We make ourselves look much smaller in front of the international community. We cease being who we are and adopt the tactics of the enemy with little or nothing to show for abandoning our long-held cherished principles.

Torture , when you become what you fight then what is the use of the fight ?

Do we live by standards and principles or are they just to be tossed when we get angry ?

Should we develop a class system to determine who gets human rights and who does not ?

Torture has never been a reliable way to get information from people - So what could motivate the use of it except to be the evil that we claim to be fighting ?

Torture is cutting off fingers not putting underwear on peoples heads.

No, true torture is not necessary or productive.

Some moderately forceful interrogation methods do need to be used. Terrorists who would strap a bomb onto their own 14 year old will never talk if they know you cannot even deprive them of sleep for a while or annoy them with undesirable music. (Yoko Ono comes to mind)

No, and it violates the Geneva Conventions, International law, and the US Constitution!

I especially don't like it when we are killing civilians, or starving 1/2 million children under 5 to death with our blockades. That is immoral!
