You know, that has always been interesting to me.
You give them the FACTS, which are not disputable, and they give you thumbs down! That is the height of showing their stupidity! You are right, guess they just don't want to get their views mixed up with facts! They might have to think, or even do a little research!

I am afraid many people prefer to ignore facts in deference to their conception of fact and truth. Also, some respondents confuse opinion or assumptions for facts.
From what I have seen, one receives a "thumbs down" when the rater doesn't like what he or she sees, even though the answer may be quite good, even the best.

Some people are in denial of the facts because the facts don't support their contentions.
For instance, many Republicans think of President Teddy Roosevelt as a conservative. However, he actually was a progressive, and even ran on the Progressive ticket in 1912, when his own party did not nominate him again for the presidency.
He would be a liberal Democrat today.

In politics it does not do to be too conscious of the facts of history or anything else. Policy is policy and the fact that it may be based on misperception or straight out lies has nothing to do with it's maintenance or application. This is why most democratic governments are staffed by lawyers and merchants who have little regard for facts, but a great deal of faith in how things may appear to a poorly informed public, half of whom are of below average intelligence.

People don't use the thumbs up/down fairly. I know of a person who will give certain other people a thumbs down regardless of what they write because they have been insulted by these people on the boards in the past. Most give thumbs up to someone who shares your belief I am afraid.

People give thumbs down for any answer that they don't like. You actually get more thumbs down the more factual you are, at least on certain subjects, because they cannot argue back.
Who cares about thumbs anyway? I state something because I think that it is true, and I think that I have something to say. I'm not trying to be popular.

have you ever heard the phrases "don't argue with an idiot, he'll only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience," or "at a distance a wise man and a fool arguing appear one and the same?"
When someone with no clue in life says something stupid there's nothing you can do but just walk away slowly and be grateful it isn't you.

That would pretty much sum it up.
A lot of people on both sides are not in the least interested in learning anything. Hence they state nonsense as facts and when facts are presented resent it.
